Based primarily on a Russian-English Dictionary of Abbreviations & Initialisms (James F. Shipp, Translations Reserach Institute, Philadelphia, 1982), this dictionary of approximately 80,000 entries seeks to present a comprehensive colloection of Russian abbreviations in use especially since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. The entires are strictly sorted by the case and major components of a given term. The dictionary does not attempt to offer English equivalent expressions and abbreviations. Rather, it is intended to serve as a crucial stepping stone in the translation process, leaving it up to the individual translator to make the best possible use of the information provided.
